Beliau mengesahkan perletakan jawatannya melalui khidmat pesanan ringkas sebagai membalas SMS yang dihantar oleh Bernama bagi mendapatkan pengesahan berita tindakannya itu.
"Ada keputusan yang tak sanggup saya laksanakan iaitu untuk melucutkan jawatan tiga pegawai Unisel tanpa proses sewajarnya," katanya ketika menjelaskan antara punca beliau meletakkan jawatan.
Berasal dari Klang, Selangor, Rosti pernah berkhidmat sebagai Timbalan Presiden Bahagian Pendidikan Petronas dan rektor pertama Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) sebelum dilantik sebagai Naib Canselor Unisel pada 2 Mac, 2009.
Beliau menggantikan Prof Datuk Dr Mohad Razali Agus yang mengosongkan jawatan itu pada Julai 2008.
Semasa baru dilantik, Rosti berkata beliau tidak akan menjadi "Pak Turut" kepada mana-mana pihak dan ingin memastikan industri pengajian tinggi swasta milik kerajaan negeri Selangor itu tidak dijadikan medan berpolitik.
Menurut sumber, Rosti telah diarahkan oleh kepimpinan Unisel untuk melucutkan tiga pegawai -- Pendaftar Rokmaa Mat, Dekan Fakulti Perniagaan Pro Dr Khalifah Othman dan Pengarah Pemasaran dan Komunikasi Korporat Halid Hasbullah.
Datuk Dr Rosti Saruwono assumed the position of Vice President, Education Division, PETRONAS since 1 March 2004. Prior to this he was the Rector/Chief Executive Officer of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS. He was also the MD/CEO of Institute of Technology Petronas Sdn. Bhd. the company that plans the establishment of the University since 1995.
Datuk Dr Rosti received his B. E. (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1973. He then started his career with the Ministry of Labour and Manpower as the Principal of the Industrial Training Institute, Kuala Lumpur from 1974 to 1980. In mid 1980 he joined PETRONAS as the Section Head of Technical Training.
He was later (1985) appointed as the Manager of Institute Latihan Perindustrian Petroleum (ILPP), Kuala Trengganu after obtaining his MBA from the Henley Management College, Brunel University, United Kingdom. Later on, Datuk Dr Rosti joined the Group Manpower Planning and Development Department as its manager before being appointed as Deputy General Manager, Human Resource Division from 1988 to 1990.
From 1990 to 1993, Datuk Dr Rosti did his Ph.D. in Business Studies at the Henley Management College, Brunel University, UK where he as also a Research Associate. Upon returning to Malaysia, he was appointed as MD/CEO of PETRONAS Management Training Sdn. Bhd. Subsequently in 1995 he was appointed as the MD/CEO of Institute of Technology PETRONAS Sdn. Bhd. to spearhead the establishment of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS.
Datuk Dr Rosti’s other qualifications include certificate in Non-Formal Education (Philippines, 1979) and Post Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Management (Oxford, 1983). He had also attended several management course including the Senior Executive Program of Columbia University, New York.
